  • Come November

Guys, we have just over 60 days until the election and for me, it cannot come soon enough. While Maryland (yes, we moved back to MD and bought a house recently) is not a battleground state, Virginia most definitely is and it makes me sad. I’m so sick of all of the political ads. It doesn’t matter who the commercial is for or against, they all irritate me to no end. I’m still partially undecided on who I will vote for and these commercials are not helping one bit.

My indecisiveness isn’t really centered on Obama versus Romney. I’m not 100% happy with either candidate (are we ever 100% happy?). I guess I just want someone that I can be really excited about and I’m not finding that with the two major party candidates nor any of the third party. I do think that part of my indecisiveness comes from the ugliness of this campaign. With all the PACs involved, things have gotten pretty ugly. I fancy myself a pretty educated person when it comes to politics and even I have a hard time figuring out who is behind what ads, something that I think is important to know when using the information in the ads to make a decision.

I know that I’ll eventually come to decision; it’s just hard to focus with all of the background noise.

  • Hi Meg, it’s good to see you here after such a long time. Welcome back. My advice to you regarding this, would be to not pay ANY attention to the ads. They will take you into a vortex of indecisiveness. I hope you heard the First Lady’s speech last night and Clinton’s speech tonight. It’s all about Arithmetic. Honestly.

Glad to hear you bought a home in MD. Hope it is somewhere near Lanham.
Hope to see more of you dear heart. Love to you and Phil.

  • Congrats on the house! VA is most definitely a battleground state – that’s where I am. I agree with ZSA_MD on the importance of hearing the First Lady and Clinton speeches. Clinton especially did a fantastic job of rolling through the issues and telling it like it is. As a woman with a daughter, I just couldn’t vote for a candidate running on the Republican platform. We all have our opinions and priorities – good luck sorting through yours with all the background noise….

  • I enjoy good speeches.  I listened to the conventions and turned off any speech that went negative.  I found I was turning many off.

  • This season it’s truly about voting for the lesser evil rather than a ringing endorsement.

The candidates have enough differences in their agendas to make it easy to separate the two in the short term. In the long term, it gets murkier since corporate money is playing an increasingly controlling part in politics.

  • @ZSA_MD - Yup, I’ve been watching both of the conventions and I’ve been doing a little more research on my own. I’m just going to start muting the tv when the commercials come on ;)

We aren’t too, too far away from Lanham, probably about 30-45 minutes!

  • @turningreen - Admittedly, I’m struggling more between voting for a third party versus the Democratic party at this point.

  • @Randy7777 - The negativity really gets to me!!! I wish the politicians would focus on telling us what they will do and not what the competition has or will do.

  • @SoullFire - Your first sentence says it all!

  • Welcome back!  The hate ads that I see turn me off.  But they are very effective according to experts.  We’ve seen quite a bit of those in our elections here.  I usually spend some time going over their platform and take the speeches with a grain of salt.  But I did enjoy watching Bill, Michelle and Obama at the convention.

  • @TheCheshireGrins - That’s okay. When I come to Lanham, in the near future, perhaps we  could get together at yet another place and have a good chat. This time I probably won’t have my grandson with me, so we could spend more time together.

  • What part of MD are you in now?

  • @Roadlesstaken - We moved back to central MoCo!

  • I just came across your blog! Which part of Maryland are you from? I go to college in PA but my family lives there.
