  • A Grand Adventure

I’m getting ready to go to Ukraine (yes, Ukraine) of all places two weeks from today. I’ve had my tickets for several months now (can’t remember if I talked about this before I became a derelict Xangan). I’m going to go visit one of my dear, dear friends who is currently working over there. I’m getting a little bit anxious to go. I’m going by myself and that’s by far the furthest I’ve traveled by myself. My friend is meeting me right at the airport but I’m having recurring nightmares that somehow I don’t find her and end up chillin’ in the Kyiv airport for two weeks (which would be teh suck). I’m sure it’ll be fine.

We have a lot of grand plans to see Kyiv and to visit Odessa, a town on the Black Sea. We also plan to visit the smaller town where she’s working. My great-great grandparents came directly to the States from Ukraine so I’m also excited about the familial aspect. Unfortunately the town that my great great grandfather was from no longer exists and the town my great great grandmother was from has been swallowed up by Poland (it’s crazy how much the country borders in that area of the world have changed during the 20th century!).

It’s going to be a fabulous trip and I can’t wait to share pictures when I get back!

Where are you going this summer?

  • Not much. I turn 24 on Saturday though, so that should count for something. Other than that just reading books, watching movies and tv series.

  • I wish you a great trip in Ukraine . I am sure you will enjoy it a lot with a huge change in your frame of life .

You ask about our trip : we have just gone back from Venice and I posted about.

    Love

    Michel

  • Oh wow! That’s super exciting! But I would be nervous, too, even knowing everything will be perfectly okay. Does your cell phone work international? I think some do and some don’t or you have to contact your service provider or something. Will you post pics of this amazing trip? Have fun! peace always

  • Already went to Mexico and looking forward to heading north to Maine in a few weeks, where it’s COOLER! Have a great trip — you will be so glad that you took this adventure and didn’t let the opportunity pass you by!

  • To Columbia MO, to the orthopedic specialist. ha ha ha. Anyway, the dang knee has restricted much of the travel. But I did go to Chicago and had a wonderful time there.

I am so happy you are going overseas Meg. How exciting. Traveling overseas is the finest institution of education. I know your friend will be at the airport hours before the plane lands. I hope you have a phone that can be used overseas. So you can let her know when the plane has landed. If you don’t, then you can buy a sims card here and put it in your phone

Yes would love to see the pictures. Safe travels and fun visits to you.

  • Leaving on wednesday, going to the UK with a dear friend for just 4 days, end of August back to the uk with DH and grandson who’s just turned 7.

  • that sounds exciting!!! And I know a friend of mine went to Italy, and the village where her people were from is gone now, but there were still a few landmark type things… like an old bridge and such… maybe you will be so lucky if you go to the area where the town was?

We’ve already been on our vacation, to Florida. It was wonderful.

Be safe, have a good time, and don’t go into any darkened basements with strangers. :)

  • I hope you have a wonderful time over there!  I’m just working working working for the rest of this summer.  Busy tennis season!

  • Have a fantastic adventure Meg and be sure to share the pics and stories with us when you get back.

As for me, a short trip of three nights up to Chiang Mai and then possible another three nights or so in Hong Kong early in September.

  • I’m very excited about your summer plans! Next week I’ll fly to my hometown in Ohio to be part of a wedding.  Other than that, I’m sticking around Texas, though I’ve made several multi-hour trips to Houston and Dallas and back. Don’t worry about your reticence on Xanga; you certainly share enough book reviews to make it all okay.
