Valentine’s Day
The Architect and I had a wonderfully simple Valentine’s Day. We both had to work yesterday but once we got home, we exchanged gifts. He gave me a spa gift certificate to a wonderfully rated spa here in DC-land and a gorgeous turquoise scarf that I had been lusting after. After the cruise we took a few years ago where I won a free facial, I decided that I could easily get addicted to going to get facials. I feel so lovely afterwards! I gave him a Pioneer Woman cookbook, a game for our Wii (Call of Duty Black Ops), and a controller that looks like an automatic rifle (nothing says love like fake firearms, you know).
The Architect also cooked a wonderful dinner. He made grilled balsamic chicken and lemon goat cheese pasta. The pasta was fantastic. You had the citrusy sourness of the lemons mixed with the earthy softness of the goat cheese. It doesn’t hurt that I would probably eat a rock if it was covered in goat cheese!!! For dessert, we had key lime pie. We opened a bottle of wonderful Spanish wine that we had gotten from our ridiculously awesome landlords. We ate by candlelight with Frank Sinatra serenading us.
Eating that way was a nice change. We have a horrible habit of eating dinner in front of the tv as it seems to be a quick way to unwind. We determined that having a quiet dinner by candlelight wasn’t such a bad way to unwind either. We definitely need to do more of that in the future.
Single or taken, I hope you all had a good day yesterday. Valentine’s Day shouldn’t just be for couples, it should be about celebrating your love for everyone that you love!

My own thoughts of valentines was it’s for anyone with love in their hearts. That got shot down by my mother the other day quite cruely.
Evidenatally to her it’s only for sweet hearts and I have none so I shouldn’t be buying anyone anything. ETC.
Your dinner sounds wonderful.
Sounds delicious and delightful. Glad you enjoyed. I haven’t had a facial in awhile – I think I deserve one soon….thanks for the reminder!
You have good taste in your gifts (ahem… I mean the Call of Duty of course).
I’m glad both of you found some quiet time together.
That sounded like a lovely celebrationof your day, Meg. Many hugs and lots of love.
aww. that sounds like it was awesome.
That sounds like such a sweet romantic evening. Glad you had such a wonderful Valentine Day.
What a wonder way to celebrate Valentines day with the one you love.
What a superb Valentine’s Day! And great food on top of that! Yay you two!
I know some real Black Ops pilots. Don’t get to see their wives much. Glad your Black Ops dude can do his stuff from home, lol. I love that you two know each other so well that you know what to get each other.
We’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day and my birthday this weekend. Steve’s in the most stressful week of his training program, so he’s studying his brains out and working around the clock. We’ll do the Melting Pot and a movie on Saturday. And if his final exam is done and passed on Friday, we might celebrate ALL weekend. But if the predicted storm comes Thurs/Fri, then he’ll be studying all weekend for his exam flight early next week. Poor honey, but I keep telling him that the exact date doesn’t matter…it’s the celebration and the togetherness that matters.
Glad to hear you had such a nice V-day. Definitely turn off the TV when you eat dinner, put on a little background music, light a candle and enjoy a more relaxing, connected meal.
As for facials, spas, etc. when you come visit Bangkok you’ll be thrilled with how inexpensive and good they are!
@NightlyDreams - Aww, I think it’s great when we can show anyone that we care about love.
@turningreen - If I were independently wealthy, I would splurge on facials and massages all the time!
@ElusiveWords - LOL, he had another one of the CoD games. I just don’t get it. I’m much better with Wii Sports and Glee Karaoke!
@ZSA_MD - Thank you
@TheSecretLifeOfPandas - @icepearlz - @tymedancer - I like it simple!
@BigToePeople - I’ve been known to declare random days a holiday so we can celebrate something.
@christao408 - We definitely need to do that more often. About 99% of the time when we watch tv during dinner, we’re watching the news, which is anything but relaxing!
And if that’s the case with Bangkok, I may never ever leave
Sounds like you hit the jackpot with having someone whose such a good cook and knows the gifts you like. =)
My Valentines was “Meh.” Not good, not bad, just “meh”.
I’m getting “Black Ops” for the 360 for my birthday in a couple weeks. I’ve played some Black Ops multiplayer with my friends for the past couple of months. It’s pretty addicting.
(By the way does the Wii version of “Black Ops” have the “You vs. Nazi Zombies” game on it?)
@SoullFire - I really did. I’m pretty lucky
@Redshirte - Oh gosh, I have no idea if it has that game on it. I’ll have to ask the Architect. That sounds interesting and sort of fun.
@TheCheshireGrins - Ooh, and Tell him if he plays multiplayer at all (especially against the Bots…) that amongst my friends, the “Havana” map is the equivalent of a four-letter word…
