Barack Obama Reads a Bedtime Story
This weekend, I started reading “The Audacity of Hope” by Barack Obama. Now most of you probably realize that I have a pretty active imagination (over-active some may say but I digress…). The strange thing about being so over-familiar with the author’s voice is that when I read the book, I can’t help but to hear his voice in my head. It’s a little disconcerting…
This weekend’s plans got a little messed up. Once again, we probably got about 6 inches of snow. That’s a lot for us here. For whatever reason, the roads were not plowed well at all and no one here knows how to drive in the snow. We were supposed to have some friends over for dinner last night but the roads were too bad for anyone to get here. Kind of a bummer…
On the upside, I was able to pick up my wedding dress yesterday!

Snow sucked, but compared to the last big snow fall we had this was nothing!
Awwww sorry the snow messed up your dinner plans but glad you were able to pick up your dress hun !
requested said book from library not paying attention. it came as an audio book (read by the author). i like obama’s voice, but couldn’t do the book. companion loved it (while watching golf)
cool about the dress!!! (must set a date with Yoda to take ‘the dress’ to the bridal shop for cleaning and just to make sure it hangs right [Jumby and Yoda are the same size in everything]) crap – must find shoes first – where does one find white shoes in winter?!?
Cool about the dress… you should post pics!
Just finished “Dreams From My Father” last night. Really thoughtfully written book and I think it gives an interesting insight into what makes the man tick. One thing interesting is how the media always described Obama as the first black president, but after reading his book I’m not sure he would plop himself into that category any more than he would the white category. We need a more nuanced way to discuss these ideas.
Both the books, Dreams From My Father and Audacity of Hope are excellent books. I was so impressed with the way his words reach into the depths of my mind.
the snow was so pretty but harzardeous,and yay for picking up your wedding dress!
i’m so excited about the wedding! hopefully you’ll be posting pictures!
Congrats on the wedding dress!
Dear Meg,
I wonder if he reads the audiobook version.

We got an ice storm…. then snow…. made a real mess of things out here.
I read that book when it first came out and really enjoyed it…
I started that book last year, but I had a terrible bout of can’t-seem-to-finish-a-book-itis (it also happened with The Joy Luck Club and The Grapes of Wrath — and I like Steinbeck); I think I’ll start it again and finish it this year, now that I’m not working so much and focusing better.
Yay, wedding dress! Pics pleez kthxbye
@Roadlesstaken - Yeah, I’m just sort of tired of snow all together.
@American_woman_USA - Thanks!
@travelerblue - I’m sure you can find white shoes online! I was always a little worried about getting shoes online just because I wasn’t sure how they were going to fit but I haven’t had any bad experiences.
@christao408 - I definitely want to read “Dreams From My Father.” I’m enjoying but am at the same time frustrated by Audacity because he talks about principles and all of his great ideas and he hasn’t acted on a lot of them. I know that it would have been a lot to do in just the first year but I think some of the things he talked about should have been put in place before the things he is doing now and has been doing for the past year.
@ZSA_MD - He does know how to write a good book. I like that he doesn’t seem to dumb any of his ideas down, something that irritates me in a lot of other political books.
@Shades_of_Athena - Yeah, I’m sure you are definitely missing your Cali weather now
@lollarious - Not to worry, I’m sure I will
@icepearlz - Thanks!
@baldmike2004 - Travelerblue mentioned that he does in her comment!
@sir_spamalot - Yeah, I’ve seen OK on the news. The weather seemed pretty wicked
@portiajules - It’s pretty good.
@epiginoskete - It’s a good book but one that I definitely think you need to be in the mood for. I could see how it could get a little stale. The Joy Luck Club is one of my favorites!
@TheCheshireGrins - I heard you. I guess one question is how much influence a President – any President – really has. Congress makes the laws, after all, and getting them to do anything is like herding cats.
