  • FIRE!

    I came home from our engagement party tonight only to find our front door absolutely busted. There were maintenance guys out in front of our apartment and they told us that there had been a fire in our building and that the firemen had to bust our door down to check to see if anyone was inside. Sighing because we knew that it was going to be a pain to get our front door replaced (the force from the firemen had busted the door frame), we walked in only to discover the door to our laundry/utility room was busted as well.

    We couldn’t figure out why that would be considering the fire was in the apartment catty corner from us. I had to call the fire chief and get really mad about the door. He came out here tonight to take a look and was pretty nice about having to come out and take pictures of the utility room door.

    We asked him what the fire was and he said that it was bad oven fire. It kind of scares me a little bit especially because our kitties were here while all of this was going on. They were probably scared… or not… nothing seems to bother them. Totoro fell in love with the fire chief and was rubbing all over him when he came in.

    Anyhow, not really how I wanted to cap off the day after having a nice engagement party but we’re fine. I’m staying home tomorrow in case the contractors come back to fix the front door. They’re going to have to fix the entire frame and everything so I’ll have to wrassle cats so they don’t decide to walk out the door. Grrr! Bottom line: we’re all okay, there’s just a few more busted doors around here.

  • Well, at least you’re definitely not gonna forget about this day anytime soon!

  • ha, how memorable.

    and you get a new door!  i hope you’ve secretly been wanting one.

  • Wow, how annoying is that!

  • Scary! Glad to hear you’re safe! What an unexpected experience! I’m sure your cats must have been quite startled.

    Btw- Nice fall colors!

  • That sucks. I’m glad the cats are OK…

  • At least no one was hurt and nothing was damaged except the door.

  • Wow! Well at least your taking it well lol. And get an excuse for a day off!

  • Oh, that sucks.  Sorry you’ll have to deal with that, but glad there was no actual fire in your place.  Funny about Totoro… must like men in uniform.

  • I never got a chance to bust down doors :/ I only got to put the gear on and hoist equipment/play with the ax.

  • Wonder how many hits it took for the front door to give way.  Glad all people and animals are well!

  • I’m glad the fire didn’t get out of control. Fire makes me nervous. :X

  • Dear Meg,

    Let’s see. First water, now fire. There’s only air and earth left. Let’s hope the aftermath of the rest of the war of the elements is not too bad!

    Yikes.

  • Thank goodness your apt. didn’t burn and I hope maintainence shows up today and fixes things.  I am happy that your engagement party was good.

  • I am sorry that happened Meg. Glad though that the kitties were ok and no one was hurt. Doors and frames can all be fixed. I am just glad that you can still have the best memories of your engagement party without any sense of tragedy.

    Are we going to see some pictures of the party?

  • minor damage and happy kitties – good!  i think i’ll go write a ‘fire’ blog…

  • Holy cow! How’s that for feeling secure. Let us know when it’s fixed.

  • @Roadlesstaken - Nope, that’s for sure!

    @TheBigShowAtUD - Ooo, definitely. I’ve always wanted a new door! Who doesn’t?

    @SoullFire - @Redshirte - Knowing my cats, they probably rubbed up against the firefighters and started purring.

    @mr_randyc - Definitely! It could have been a lot worse.

    @AlterEgo909 - @REDPOPPY1 - @stixandstonz - @BigToePeople - Yup, I’ll get another day off Friday seeing as how the contractors are going to be in and out of the apartment all day fixing the door. I have to stay home and supervise the contractors while making sure no kitty cats decide to wander outside… or more likely love on the contractors.

    @christao408 - Lol, it was so funny. Totoro has good taste :)  The poor fire chief didn’t know what to do!

    @ItsWhatEyeKnow - I don’t want to know. It’s a big, heavy metal door!

    @ModernBunny - Me too. I’m kind of glad that I wasn’t home. I’m terrified of fire… I should blog about why. It’s actually kind of a funny story oddly enough.

    @baldmike2004 - Gah! I hadn’t thought about that. I hope this stops with two elements!

    @ZSA_MD - I was too busy chatting with everyone that came to take pictures but my mom took some. I’ll try to get some from her.

    @travelerblue - Oh yes, it could have been worse. I’m happy that everything turned out okay.
