Receptionary
Our main objective for the weekend is to tour two places for our wedding ceremony/reception site. I really like both places from speaking to the event coordinators at each respective place. One is a country club, the other place is actually a plant nursery (yes, as in a place that grows plants) that happens to have event places on site. Both places would mean having an outdoor wedding, which I like (although I’m worried about the weather but that’s totally out of my control so I can’t worry too much).
The country club obviously has its own caterers and with the nursery, we’d have to worry about getting caterers to come in. The country club also includes a few more niceties like an event coordinator to make sure that everything runs smoothly on your wedding day. The nursery is just in a really pretty place and would give us the freedom to bring our own caterer if we wish.
My family actually had Easter brunch at the country club. The food was wonderful. I think I’m leaning more towards that place but we’ll see how we feel when we actually see it. I will feel better about all of the wedding planning once we have a location set in stone. I am really beginning to see why people usually have a year-long engagement before getting married; I can see how one would need it. Really, I do.
I hope after seeing both places that we’ll come to a consensus on where we want the wedding to take place and then most everything else should be smaller details and those I can definitely handle.
What are you doing this weekend?

Wow, wedding preparations scare me. Haha.
This weekend I rest! Three-day weekends FTW!
Sounds like you have things well under control. My oldest son’s wedding was outdoors. Utterly delightful.
Don’t get too hung up on a wedding planner. Our space didn’t come with one but we had a wonderful friend handle all those duties and she was way more than we could have asked for in a “pro”. Plus since she didn’t work in that space, she had no preconcived ideas about how things should be or usually are.
House cleaning – again
And reading and writing for my last class of my MA
Wedding planning is so fun. Have a great time!!
I’m sure you’ll pick the place that is right for the two of you. Enjoy it in the meantime, and try not to stress over it. I know it’s easier said than done though.
Take some pictures of both and share them with us, won’t you? They both sound nice, although the nursery is both unique and whimsical… and maybe just a bit more poetic, too.
This weekend’s main objective: Sunday brunch. Have lots to do in preparation.
I hope you find the perfect place for your reception.
Both of my children had their wedding in the country club. I would have loved to have had it in my back yard, but was worried about the weather and, the mosquitos and all the other things that you have talked about.
OMG i come on here and read this and im like…wait what? wedding huh omg!! and so i scurry around and then finally i see the huge picture with the ring and i read the post and i know im waaaaaaaaai late but …that is so ROMANTIC!!!!!! congratulationsss!!!!! seriously tho im grinning! wow!!! lol
<333
Ah… event planning… we saved a mint ourselves by having family cater our wedding (My dad cooked and so did some of my wife’s family)… if it wasn’t so far away I’d even suggest one of my uncles who has a catering biz of his own.
Wow, you are so active on this so early that I think it’s all going to turn out great! You might find you have a natural gift as a wedding planner. =)
I love the idea of an outdoor wedding as well!:)
ps. Planning a wedding is tough- but I hope most of it is actually enjoyable for you as well- it’s so exciting and once in a life time, ya know! Hope you enjoy yourself

Karen
@FreeeVerse - We have a three day weekend next week! Yay!
@i_was_there_and_back_again - I hope things are under control. Either way, we’re getting married outside. I’m excited about that!
@firewillconsume - I think I’m not going to use a wedding planner. Luckily it seems that I’m going to get a lot of help from my mom and my sisters.
@florida2008 - @karen_lynn - I think I will have more fun with it once we have a place picked out.
@AnamcharaConcepts - Hah, I’m trying not to stress! It’s so difficult though!
@christao408 - We did take pictures! I need to get the Architect to get them off of his camera for me.
@stixandstonz - I’m sure we will!
@ZSA_MD - I think we are sort of leaning that way. It gives us a bit more flexibility and safety from weather risk.
@darkarin88 - Awww, thank you!!!
@sir_spamalot - Ooo, that sounds nice. The Architect keeps joking that he’ll cater our own wedding. I’ve banned him from that though!
@SoullFire - Haha, so far, I don’t think I’m cut out for the wedding planning business.
