Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish (with update)
I haven’t felt much like writing lately. I blame a combination of school and the Metro. The Metro still hasn’t been running correctly and there are still speed-restrictions going on which means service is super slow. Because of the slow service, the trains have been super crowded. Today is the first morning that I have had a relatively regular commute. Believe me, my nerves are pretty frayed and I am looking forward to the 3 day weekend. I have absolutely no plans and our pool is calling my name.
A person in my school group finally dropped the class… after 6 weeks because she said it was too much work. Everyone in the group got a whiny email from her saying she couldn’t keep up with the work and the professor was not very flexible with deadlines. She wasn’t doing any work anyhow so I say good riddance. I know there are some people whose parents force them to go to undergrad but grad school is typically pretty voluntary. You would think that people who are taking grad classes would know what they were in for. Apparently some of them do not. Hopefully our group can work a little bit better now. We’re halfway through the summer semester!
Oh, this weekend, I hit up Borders and got 5 books for about $20. Pure excitement! Maybe I’ll get to read a bit of them this weekend. One problem with the Metro being so crowded is I don’t get a seat and trying to hold up a book while being bumped my standing people while trying to hold on so you don’t fall over just doesn’t work very well.
What are your plans for this weekend?

I found the perfect thing that I feel like doing to Metro after the horrible 1.5 weeks of commuter misery. Anyone seen this scene from the movie, "Officespace"? Yeah, I want to do this....

let us know and keep us posted on those book recs!
from ~ another fond of reading
I guess that person just couldn't handle grad school. Oh well, I suppose it's not made for everyone.
I didn't realize professors had to be flexible with turn in times. Is that anything like being flexible about what days you work?
Family plans this weekend. Hope you get to read some. What else is going on for you this celebratory time?
yay for cheap books! i love going into barnes and noble just to check out what they have.
I love finding deals on books! I've found many new authors that way. It always amazed in Grad School at people who couldn't handle the work or those who stayed and still did no work. (Why I still have no M.A. is a long story.)
Yup Grad school is a choice - and a great one
what a deal on books.
that's probably my favorite scene from that movie!
I don't have any plans for the weekend. Probably just go with the flow.
Whiny people + gone = happier days for the rest of us.
Is the weekend almost here? Oh, yes...
Hopefully my plans include a friend from where I last lived hanging out with us for the weekend.... his car is in pretty sad shape so I may have to go pick him up.... would like to canoe, but may be too late to rent one.
yeah good riddance to whiny people. What a steal at Borders..five books for $20?? I am very envious.
My son is on his way home to spend the entire weekend golfing. My friends are coming over on Saturday from Baltimore and Atlanta, and S's parents will be here. So it will be a very busy weekend for me.
dang... i wish they had a sale like that for books where i live! i'd be there in a second..
That was actually filmed in a suburb just north of my city. :D
@Loonsounds - Will do :)
@Roadlesstaken - It definitely isn't but she had taken grad school classes before this summer...
@AnamcharaConcepts - We'll probably go find someplace to watch fireworks but I'm pretty set on staying around home. I hope you guys have a great weekend!
@lollarious - Me too! Their sales can be deadly for my wallet though!
@buckeyegirl31 - Yeah, I really don't understand how people could just skate by. I'm way too anal-retentive to let my grades go even though they really don't matter all since I don't plan to go any further with school after I get this degree.
@MsCatbert2You - I think it's really going to benefit me!
@LetheOfHeaven - I was irrationally excited about that.
@Roadlesstaken - I love that whole movie! So funny?
@icepearlz - Sounds good to me!
@christao408 - Amen to that!
@sir_spamalot - Have a good time with your friend!
@ZSA_MD - Sounds busy! Have a wonderful weekend!
@thekeyhole - A lot of the big chain bookstores (borders, barnes and nobles, etc) are having trouble selling books. You should check any of those stores and I bet you could find some good deals!
@Repository - Really? Where was it filmed?
@TheCheshireGrins - thanks a bunch! *hugs* you are the best!
In Pflugerville, north of Austin.
So, what books did you buy? Do tell.
I've heard so many things about Office Space and I've not once even seen the movie (I'm surprised I haven't seen it cause I have a huge crush on Jennifer Anniston... well used to be huge, but not so much right now)... I need to add it to my wish list of things to do...
um... not a whole lot. an outing, tonight (w/pics), and... rest, after. oh, and picnic food!
and i shop at Barnes & Noble. hm.
@Repository - Wow, I had no idea that it was filmed in TX!
@i_was_there_and_back_again - The Color Purple, Brick Lane, Towelhead, The Buenos Aires Broken Hearts Club, and Strawberry Fields
@stupid_systemus - If you have ever worked in a cubicle, you will appreciate it immensely. Even if you have not, you'll probably still find it funny.
@TheBigShowAtUD - Eh, I'm an equal opportunity book shopper. If there are books, I'm there. Honestly, any more, I order a lot of my books from Amazon.
