Political Friday: Don't Cry for Me Argentina
Mmm, political scandals. Delicious. So by now, you’ve all heard about the Mark Sanford scandal. To me, this is almost the most hilarious political scandal EVAR. Mr. Family Values goes to Argentina, trips and his nether regions happen to bump into some Argentine lady’s nether regions (mmm, irony). All while Mr. Family Values writes letters that had to have been inspired by those books in which Fabio-like men grace the cover. Oh, also, he quotes the Bible while writing said letters. Somehow I don’t think those two things really equate
To top it off, Mr. Family Values goes to Argentina under the guise of hiking the Appalachian Trail (hey, they both start with “a”; close enough). Mr. Family Values also decides to not tell anyone where exactly he’s going, which was understandable because he was trying to be sneaky-sneaky but it must be pointed out that people kind of start missing governors when they disappear for a few days (no matter how scummy).
There is something really awesome about watching people get caught for something that they are totally against. Hurray for schadenfreude!
On a serious note, it’s always been my policy to not do things that I will be embarrassed or mad about if I get caught doing them. I think there are many people out there who have that same philosophy. The Republican Party goes on and on about their principles and moral compasses and all of this stuff that they apparently don’t really believe in. Principles are mere words unless you actually choose to practice what you preach. The American People are not stupid and will catch onto whatever you are trying to get away with. When you get caught doing something that the public frowns down upon and you have said in the past that you also frown upon it as well, it just makes you look really stupid.
(Oh, if you want to read another good post on this matter, go read christao408’s post)

Shall we have no standards at all?
i know...i think it's hilarious too.
Haha...you forgot to mention that "Mr Family Values" committed this act during Fathers Day weekend.
It's also funny how Fox tried their best to give it a positive spin. They may as well call it the BRNN (Biased Republican News Network). They were trying to label him as an "upfront guy" with his long winded confession as if he decided to come clean out of conscious, only to have MSNBC show the real reason - that a reporter busted him as he returned from his trip in Argentina. Even then he chose to lie and said that he enjoyed travelling and went there instead of hiking the Apalachian trail. It wasn't until she told him that she had those steamy emails that he knew the jig was up an only then did he decide to be "upfront" about it.
All this, and the new "Lov Gov" still feels he's justified in staying in office.
I can only hope the 2010 elections will be a solid referendum on all the hypocrisy going on.
Oh, thanks for the rec!
What was it we used to tell people when teaching code of ethics training? Never do or say anything that, if it appeared on the 6 o'clock news, would embarrass your grandmother.
I don't think anybody goes into these things with the intention of doing them...they happen organically and sometimes under the influence of alcohol. Sex or love...or intimacy is a powerful thing...when you live vacant life these tend to creep in somehow...
"Naw baby, that appalachian trail meant nothing to me, you're the only trail I enjoy hiking...." ;)
Hypocrisy, thy name is Mark Sanford.
How sad for his children and the wife. I wonder how he would have felt if his wife was having the affair instead of him. I hope they kick him out of the office.
I like how his wife is handling it. Smart lady.
@randomneuralfirings - Standards are important but lose something when hypocrisy enters the picture.
@ABSOLUTmichael - I can't believe he's staying in office. I think we're in for more hilarity!
@SoullFire - I hope so too. Thank goodness 2010 is not that far away.
@christao408 - Yeah, more people need to take ethics training.
@youandwhosearmy - I suppose that's true but I don't think it gives one a license to lie about what you're doing.
@sir_spamalot - LOL! I love that!
@ZSA_MD - @BigToePeople - Out of all the people in the situation, I believe that his family is being hurt the worst. It's so sad for them!
@TheCheshireGrins - Such an odd coincidence that you reply here so soon after I put my latest post up.
I still can't figure out why he thought he could disappear for a few days and all would be well. When he got back, was he going to claim he'd been kidnapped or something? o_O
Certainly there is no excuse for anyone cheating on their spouse. However, what I don't like is when society goes against a republican (or a conservative) doing something wrong, more than a democrat or liberal. Just because one may speak against that sort of thing more than another, doesn't change one simple thing.. They're all slimeballs for engaging in such activity. Certainly it does make me wonder how we can trust them, when obviously their own spouse can't. But, that would be with all ideologies and parties.
Trash comes in all kinds of trash bags. Some are all ripped and torn, and smell, so you know its trash. But it still is all trash.
