Fall Traditions
Between the Rally for Sanity/Fear and the Marine Corps Marathon, there was a lot going on in our fair city this weekend. I don’t have a lot of patience for tourists (hey, I’m crotchety) so it was time for an adventure outside of the city. For the past several Octobers, the Architect and I have escaped from the city with a group of friends.
The Architect’s family owns an awesome cabin in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. It’s so peaceful. It’s a good place to get away and best of all, we can get up there in about 2-3 hours. You can actually see stars out there (tis a foreign concept to us DC-ers).
The cabin always makes for a good weekend filled with good people, good music, good food and lots of sleep, sweet, sweet sleep. It’s a lot of visiting and catching up and a lot of watching the guys play with fire and reverting back to their high school mentalities (always entertaining).
The weather finally felt fall like this weekend. It was perfect for sitting around the campfire and telling lots of stories and laughing like crazy. We had all sorts of good, cozy fall food including caramel apples (we melted caramel over the fire) and fire roasted hot dogs. Fall is by far my favorite season and this cabin trip has become one of my favorite fall traditions.
What are some of your favorite fall traditions?

that sounds like so much fun.
I wish I had a place to get away from it all.
seeing the stars is a foreign concept for us chicago folk as well. boo. lol.
as for traditions…um…none that I can think of. halloween parties and thanksgiving fun is all I’ve got.
I live in small city, compared to the cities in the states of the same size, and on a clear day we can still see stars. Fall is good time to prepare for winter – as in get all the winter clothes prepared for cold days
Aw, you didn’t want to check out that rally?
We camp all the time & it is so much fun! Camping during the Fall is especially fun because the temps are just right. Glad you enjoyed your trip
Is not that idyllic ?

I always love how crisp the stars are when it gets cold outside! Laying under a blanket and just looking at the stars is complete heaven!
I love warm marshmellows. Not the flamed kind but the almost just lightly browned kind lol. Haven’t had any in a long time but they are wonderful. We just don’t camp out or do stuff like that in my family very often. It would be a treat to do so though.
starting the fire in the hearth, drinking hot chocolate, collecting the most vividly colored red and orange leaves. and so much more.
We’re doing that this weekend. Going to Seven Springs in PA to stay at fiance’s brother’s condo with his parents. My soon-to-be parents.
Oh- your camping trip sounds simply amazing!:)
fall..hmm..I love the leaves changing..there is a place I go hiking each fall that is amazing…..once I get my daughter I will do the apple picking..pumpkin patch thing…
RYC : I am sure the Architect will admire too the Amiens cathedral architecture !!
