  • Welcome Fall!

It’s dark here today. The skies have been threatening to open up all day but they have only drizzled on us a little bit so far.  I was a bit early coming into the city and so I decided to pop into Starbucks and sit for a spell and try to read some more of my latest obsession. These are the mornings I love. Coming in a little early affords me the time to get a cup of coffee and get lost in my books for a few moments before rushing off to my next affair. Whenever I go to this particular Starbucks, I try to get a seat by the window so I can watch the world rush by. Yes, it distracts me from my reading but I love people watching.

I had gotten to a really gripping part of the book this morning when someone said, “How are you liking that book?” Now, this is a particularly dangerous question to ask me especially if you are simply trying to make niceties because I always have a lot to say about books. Yes, yes. So I started rattling a little bit to this woman. She offered me the name of another author that I would probably like. How awesome is that? Anyone that can recommend a good book to me is my hero. She recommended an author named Diana Galbadon (sp?). For some reason, it just kind of tickled me that a random stranger came up and offered me a book suggestion. I love this place!

Anyhow, tonight we’re going out for Greek food and then shopping and then home to clean the house for our guests. What guests you ask? Well, tomorrow one of the Architect’s friends and his girlfriend are coming over and we’re going to pick apples. Then we’ll go home and make lots of apple related yumminess. I’m not sure what’s on the menu yet but it’s sure to be wonderful.

Sunday is our engagement party. My parents are holding it. It should be fun!

What are you doing this weekend?

  • Oooh engagement party!  Take a lot of pictures!

  • - I love people watching too.

    - I hope you enjoy the engagement party. I agree with Road, please take pictures and show us!

    - I am having quite a rough weekend. I hope I end up very drunk to the point of forgetting my middle name.

  • Where are you two going for Greek?  (If you two haven’t tried it, I really like Athens Grill. Kinda hole in the wall-ish, but I think the food is pretty good.)

    Have fun Sunday!

Oh, and we are probably going to go see The Informant this weekend…

  • I read Gabaldon’s Outlander series when I was in my early twenties.  Loved them!

  • Have a blast with your friends. Great times at your engagement party. AND, make the best apple pies with the apples you pick.

Tomorrow I am taking the boys to the local apple orchard and get a couple of gallons of fresh cider. I think they will like watching that. Having people over for dinner tomorrow night.

  • Now that’s a East Coast Kind of Fall day!   It was 97 degrees here today.  I am coaching my daughter’s softball games (doubleheader) tomorrow morning.  If its still real hot in the afternoon, we might bake cookies on the sidewalk.  Not quite fall yet on the West Coast!  Enjoy your party Sunday.  Those are special events. –BTB

  • duuuuuuuuuude! that sounds like fun! i’ve always wanted to go and pick something…like anything. hmm maybe you could make apple cobbler …or maybe apple crisp. ….apple pie? lol  This weekend.. I am attending my uncles wedding tomorrow (go figure) and working all day Sunday : /   Have a nice engagment party! ooooooh you could totally make carmel apples with everyone! although i’m not quite sure if thats too informal… : )

  • Fun with words and phrases………

    “Coming
in a little early affords me the time to get a cup of coffee and get
lost in my books for a few moments before rushing off to my next affair.” – Oh no you didn’t! Don’t tell me you’re going to hike the Appalachian Trail too?!?!?

“Well, tomorrow one of the Architect’s friends and his girlfriend are coming over and we’re going to pick apples.” Wait – the Architect is bringing over his gf along with one of his friends? Aye caramba! He has a lot of nerve inviting his gf over to see his fiance!! I’m surprised you’re taking it so well.

    Wow…and it’s not even a full moon over here…hehehe!

    TGIF!

  • I have work today, and continued wedding last minute things lol

  • Well, I just love Stabucks.

  • Have fun at your engagement party!!! Ours was a blast…poor Steve, it was 90% my people and he was overwhelmed. We had it at Bilbo Baggins in Olde Towne Alexandria.

Beware Gabaldon! She’s awsome, and addictive. However, after 4 of her books, I turned into an Anti-Gabaldon fan. Seriously, read her first Outlander book, and her second. Those two are ideal time-traveller historic-fiction stories.

I am SO CAUGHT UP in the Guernsey Literary…Potato Peel Pie book. LOVE it.

  • How much fun.  Hope you take a lot of photos of your engagement party.  We are going out to the valley tomorrow and photograph the farmers harvesting the corn.  Other than that not a whole lot going on.

  • Hmmm…. no book suggestions lately…. did have a drunk guy try to reccomend a willy nelson song when I was looking for something to play on a jukebox at a bar the other night.  :D
